Discovery Spinal Conservative Care Programme
Breytenbach Physiotherapists is a registered provider on the Discovery Health Spinal Conservative Care Network.
The programme offers eligible Discovery members a structured, non-surgical approach to persistent back and neck pain, with the aim of improving pain, movement and function and, where appropriate, reducing the need for spinal surgery.
As a registered network practice, we can provide the physiotherapy component of the programme.
Discovery’s Spinal Conservative Care Programme provides eligible members with a structured, non-surgical approach to back and neck pain.

Care focuses on active rehabilitation, education, exercise and appropriate pain-management strategies.

The aim is to improve function and support recovery through conservative treatment before more invasive options are considered.

Once enrolled, approved programme sessions are funded through the programme benefit and do not come from your usual day-to-day benefits.
Your first step is to be assessed by a GP or spinal specialist who participates in the Discovery Spinal Conservative Care Programme.

If your usual doctor is not part of the network, we can help direct you to an appropriate registered provider.

Once you have been approved for the programme, you can book an appointment with us or contact our practice directly.

When booking an appointment, please let us know that you have been enrolled on the Spinal Conservative Care Programme.

Before we can access the information needed for your care, Discovery requires your consent. This is usually completed electronically via SMS, so please ensure that your current cellphone number is correctly recorded with Discovery.

Your first physiotherapy appointment will focus mainly on a comprehensive assessment. Depending on the complexity of your presentation and the time required, treatment may only begin at a subsequent session.

Following the assessment, we will develop an individualised treatment plan and determine the most appropriate frequency of follow-up sessions.

Discovery may also send you confirmation of your enrolment. If you receive this, please forward a copy to our practice.
The programme is generally completed within a 6–12 week period, depending on your clinical needs and progress.
Once successfully enrolled, the programme is funded as an enhanced Discovery benefit and does not simply use your normal physiotherapy day-to-day benefits.

Treatment outside the approved programme is funded according to the benefits of your specific medical aid plan.

We therefore recommend confirming eligibility before starting treatment under the programme.
